What It Takes to Succeed

The role requires a unique blend of advanced technical electrical knowledge, strict safety awareness, and strong analytical thinking. Because work happens around explosive atmospheres, precision, compliance, and attention to detail are critical at every stage.

Electrical & industrial systems

Confident work with motors, control systems, instrumentation, switchgear, and power distribution common to mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, and processing environments.

Hazardous area & Ex protection

Knowledge of classifications and explosion protection including Ex d (flameproof), Ex e (increased safety), Ex i (intrinsic safety), Ex p (pressurisation) ,plus identifying ratings and interpreting certification markings.

Fault finding & diagnostics

Logical troubleshooting of complex faults in high-risk environments, interpreting technical data and using industrial control systems and diagnostic tools.

Reading technical documentation

Accurately interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, hazardous area dossiers, engineering drawings, and manufacturer specifications to keep work compliant.

Attention to detail & compliance

Consistently following procedures, completing inspections, and maintaining accurate records, even minor errors can carry serious safety implications.

Safety awareness

Identifying risks, applying control measures, and working confidently under permit-to-work systems while actively contributing to safety culture.

Communication & teamwork

Working alongside engineers, supervisors, operators, and maintenance teams so work is coordinated, downtime is minimised, and safety requirements are met.

Physical capability & adaptability

Comfort with remote locations, confined spaces, elevated platforms, and challenging conditions;many roles are site-based with shift work or FIFO.

Continuous learning

Standards, equipment technologies, and compliance requirements evolve, so staying current through ongoing training and professional development is essential.
