The Role

What You’ll Do Day to Day

Electricians install, commission, maintain, and operate renewable energy systems, from residential rooftop solar through to large-scale solar farms, battery storage, wind farms, and EV charging infrastructure that generate, store, and manage clean electricity.

Residential solar & battery

Mount and connect solar panels, install inverters, wire AC and DC circuits, integrate battery storage, and connect systems to the grid, all compliant with Australian Standards and network connection requirements.

Commercial & industrial systems

Install high-capacity solar arrays, battery energy storage systems (BESS), energy management systems, and EV charging stations, with advanced testing, commissioning, and integration into existing infrastructure.

Utility-scale projects

On solar farms, wind farms, and large battery facilities: install and terminate cables, commission equipment, test protection systems, maintain switchgear, and monitor performance to minimise downtime.

Testing & commissioning

Verify system performance, conduct electrical testing, and commission equipment so systems operate safely and efficiently before handover to clients or network operators.

Fault-finding & maintenance

Regular inspections, performance testing, fault diagnosis, and repairs across panels, inverters, batteries, monitoring systems, and network connections using specialised test equipment.

Emerging technologies

Increasingly involved in smart grids, microgrids, EV charging, home energy management, and grid-scale battery storage; a chance to develop specialist skills on innovative projects.

Safety & compliance

Work safely with both high-voltage DC and AC systems, follow strict isolation and safety procedures, and ensure every installation meets standards and regulatory requirements.

Essential clean-energy work

Combine traditional electrical skills with renewable knowledge to help generate, store, and distribute clean energy, work that’s central to Australia’s energy transition.
